LG went official in their blog and gave detailed information on the sound technology that the LG G8 ThinQ will be adopted and let’s just say that this will be a game-changer if LG delivers as promised.
Let’s face it. LG is not new in pushing boundaries when it comes to audio quality in their smartphones. The quad DAC solution in the LG V series was top-notch, while the newly “boom box speaker” technology which increases the speaker output just by placing your smartphone on a hard surface, was a welcome feature.
Although most of us audiophiles complement LG for their keen interest in audio quality, it’s safe to say both technologies mentioned above went under the radar in the most part.
Thankfully, LG is not giving up just yet. LG recently collaborated with Meridian Audio (Meridian) to come up with a new in-display sound technology called CSO
What is CSO?
Crystal Sound Oled or CSO is a new innovative sound technology that uses the screen to produce sound. In simple words, the LG G8 ThinQ will utilize it’s screen as it’s speaker, with the help of CSO technology.
That said, LG G8 will still have a traditional speaker at the bottom, which would be used for hands-free loudspeaker calls. Also, the bottom speaker will be used in conjunction with the CSO screen technology for a true balance stereo sound technology.
As mention earlier, LG collaborated with Meridian Audio for this exclusive technology. Meridian Audio, is a respectable audio company that is based in the U.K. They have manufacture 3D surround sound system in some Range Rover cars.
In addition to CSO, the LG G8 ThinQ will also come equipped with DTS: X, which will produce up to 7.1 channels of quality sound in both wired speakers and the external speaker.
Plus, the boom box speaker and the HI-FI quad DAC will also make a comeback in the LG G8 ThinQ.
