The announcement of “LEGO Horizon Adventures” was a surprise despite the previous leaks. The title will not only be released for the PS5 and PC. Switch owners will also be able to enjoy the spinoff.
Xbox gamers, on the other hand, are left empty-handed. After Microsoft opened up part of its first-party offering to competing consoles, a later release on Xbox hardware would be conceivable. However, it has not been mentioned so far.
There is currently nothing to announce for the Xbox
But why is Sony Interactive Entertainment daring to leap to the Switch with “LEGO Horizon Adventures” but leaving another competing console out? It is a question that James Windeler, Narrative Director at Guerrilla Games, was asked to answer in a conversation with Stephen Totilo, editor of the Game File newsletter.
He explained rather vaguely:
“Right now, we’re focused on pushing the hardware to its limits and making the game look as amazing as it can on that hardware. And you know, we don’t really have anything to announce about Xbox right now.”
It sounds more like a standard statement and should not necessarily be interpreted as the Xbox hardware being a hurdle. Given that the game is being released on a much weaker platform, namely the Nintendo Switch, an opposing argument would be pretty questionable.
Since “LEGO Horizon Adventures” is not just a Sony brand, but the Danish manufacturer of interlocking bricks also has a say, the game’s most comprehensive possible range could be part of the contract. And with more than 140 million consoles sold, including many copies owned by children, the Switch seems to be the first choice.
Accordingly, Windeler said of the Switch version that the goal is to make “Horizon” accessible to a “much wider audience,” “including a family-friendly and younger audience.”
Since “Horizon” is also one of the most essential PlayStation brands, Sony may have prevailed here at the expense of the Xbox hardware. It remains to be seen whether the platforms announced so far will remain in the long term. “LEGO Horizon Adventures” has been announced for PS5, Switch and PC:
The launch of LEGO Horizon Adventures is planned for this year. However, the exact date is still pending. The title can already be added to the PlayStation Store wish list.
